Mt Ida has an enviable reputation for quality. Renowned as one of Australia's best Shiraz producers, Mt Ida sources fruit from vines grown in the Cambrian loam soils of Heathcote, Victoria.

The winery's fortunes took a turn for the worst in 1983 when the Heathcote vineyards were completely decimated in the Ash Wednesday bushfires, taking three years to recover.

Mt Ida is dedicated to maintaining a premium product of the highest quality. Such is the winemaking philosophy, that vintages of Mt Ida are only created when superior fruit is available. As a result, in some years the Mt Ida Shiraz is not released.

The unique Cambrian loam soil of the Mt Ida vineyard is made up of deep, red soil that provides a perfect base to grow vines, enabling them to thrive throughout a dry growing season.
