Punters Corner Cellar Door Shiraz old vines produced a very small crop of outstanding fruit in 1998  with complex spice, leather and tarry red berry fruit characters only seen in the best years. This ‘one off’ limited release Reserve wine has been named after the owners exceptional racehorse, ‘Spartacus’. The wine was matured in American and  Russian barriques for 20 months.
Dense red in colour with an incredibly intense complex nose of lifted smoky vanillin oak  and ripe red berry fruits with hints of spice and pepper combining to produce a “Christmas fruit cake’ like aroma, with  the Russian oak contributing finesse and balance. Dense sweet ripe fruit and ripe tannins follow on the palate with a long sweet fruit finish.
A rare individual vineyard wine from an excellent year in Coonawarra, the ‘Spartacus’ shows the richness and complexity of Coonawarra Shiraz when it is truly exceptional.

Dense red-purple; powerful, concentrated dark berry/cherry fruit with hints of earth flood the bouquet, oak making only a minor contribution. Another dimension of fruit depth is revealed on the palate, with dark cherry, chocolate and ripe, well-balanced tannins. Rating 92 Drink 2013 Date Tasted Mar 00 James Halliday
