WINEMAKER LARRY CHERUBINO’S COMMENTS:

COLOUR: Very deep, dark inky colour with vibrant purple hues.

BOUQUET: Intense blueberry and blackberry fruits with fragrant raspberry notes are complexed by spice and cracked black pepper.

PALATE: These qualities follow faithfully to the intense palate. Rich mouthcoating flavours and elegant fine tannins provide superb length and a spicy finish.

CELLARING: Extended careful cellaring for 10-15 years will see this w ine develop in complexity, further enhancing the fruit, oak and tannin.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Born at Guildford, near the Houghton winery in the Swan Valley, Western Australia. Dr John Sylvester Gladstones, the internationally acclaimed scientist, is most noted for identifying the Margaret River region for vine growing (1965). Later, he helped select environments and suitable vine varieties for planting at Frankland, Pemberton, Manjimup and elsewhere in WA. Writer of numerous publications, Dr John Gladstones, long time friend of the late Jack Mann, is a pioneer of the Western Australian wine industry and supporter of Houghton wines.

NEW RELEASE

Sourced from the Justin Vineyard in Frankland River, Western Australia, the fruit displays intensity and richness of black fruits and pepper. The 1999 vintage was outstanding for red wines in Western Australia and the mild, dry conditions prolonged the ripening period.

This Dual Gold Medal winning wine is the first release under the Houghton Gladstones brand and the label is the elegant combination of the Houghton crest core, showing the strength of shield and dagger, established in 1836 and reflects tradition with vigneron expertise.
