Launched in 1952 as Coonawarra Estate Claret, this wine has long upheld Wynns reputation as a producer of premium Coonawarra Shiraz. Typically it has aromas reminiscent of ground black pepper, mulberry and raspberry, through to blackberry at the riper end of the spectrum. Oak is used to mature and increase the wines complexity without dominating its distinctive cool-climate Coonawarra Shiraz characters. Wynns Coonawarra Estate Shiraz is regularly placed among Australias best value red wines. Vineyard Region Coonawarra Grape Variety Shiraz (Syrah) Maturation Matured in American oak (74 per cent) and French oak (26 per cent) for 12 months. Winemaker Comments: Sue Hodder Colour. Strong red with well defined crimson hue. Nose. Ripe fruit provides a lifted bouquet of raisins, spice and tobacco. Integrated and subtle oak ensures that fruit aromas dominate the nose. Palate. Polished tannins with easily recognisable Coonawarra black pepper and dark cherries. Firm structure ensures a good future. This vintage has produced a refined style of Australian Shiraz with balanced fruit, oak and alcohol.
