2000 SCOTCHMANS HILL PINOT NOIR The colour is typical Pinot Noir ruby/ purple. Nose On the nose the wine is youthful and of medium intensity and the fruit is delicate in it’s perfumed raspberries, crushed blackberries and violets. Some strawberry fruit is emerging at this early stage. Cocoa on the nose is indicating the use of first and second year, medium to high toast oak. Palate The palate is intense, has high acid, fine but full tannins, is of medium body awaiting the fruit to emerge and the alcohol is of medium to high intensity. The palate fruit is directly related to the nose in crushed red and black fruits, Pinot Noir violet characters and some mushroom. Oak seems to be showing through chocolate and cocoa flavours. Conclusion The 2000 vintage has allowed the Scotchmans Hill Pinot Noir to return to it’s typically broader style showing pure Pinot Noir fruit, a big structure and a good depth of flavour.
