This is Coriole Vineyards’ flagship red wine and has been produced since 1970 and is sourced from estate grown vineyards. Fermentation occurs in traditional open concrete tanks and maturation includes 30% new oak. The style is rich and concentrated but held back from being too ripe and sweet fruited. 2001 Shiraz The Shiraz has been Coriole's flagship red and produced since 1970. The fruit that features in this wine is predominately from 30 year old vines grown on the Coriole estate vineyard. The Shiraz has deep red red plum colouring and bright purple hues and displays intence rich cherry and vanillin, sweet plum aromas. The palate is full of chocolate, spearmint and plum flavours with hints of violets. This wine is well balanced and has good structure with approachable firm tannins. The up front fruit characters of this wine make it possible to enjoy now, yet it will reward with careful cellaring for 8~12 years

Wine Advocate #148 (Aug 2003) Robert Parker 90 points Drink 2004-2016

The 2001 Shiraz is tight, closed, dense, and monolithic, but promising. It possesses pure blackberry fruit intermingled with white pepper, chocolate, and wood notes. Rich, tightly-knit, and extremely concentrated, give it 1-2 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 12. Kudos to proprietor/winemaker Mark Lloyd, referred to as the “renaissance man” by many of his peers.
