DESCRIPTION

2002 was an exceptional vintage in the Clare Valley. It was characterised by a cool spring followed by a warm ripening period, ideal development conditions on the Taylor’s Clare Valley Estate. The fermentation method and oak treatment were chosen to enhance the natural mid palate of Shiraz from an exceptional year. The wine was matured in a combination of carefully selected new and old American oak hogsheads for approximately 12 months to impart a perfect blend of vanillin and creamy oak characters.

WINE COLOUR

Deep purple with ruby red hues.

WINE BOUQUET

This wine is characterised by ripe (not overripe) varietal shiraz with fruit aromas of rich spice, plum, cinnamon & liquorice. A faint backbone of black pepper is evident typical of Shiraz from cooler climate areas and rarely seen in the Clare Valley. Creamy nuances of vanilla oak, chocolate and coffee add complexity to the bouquet.

WINE PALATE

An elegant, velvety shiraz with magnificently integrated flavours of black cherries, liquorice and plum. The oak presence is strong and supportive but does not dominate. A delicious, generous wine that will develop considerable complexity as it ages.

SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHING

Richer meat dishes or game, maybe turkey or venison. Also try with a strong cheese platter, vintage cheddar in particular.

“Quite simply an enormous mouthful of ripe fruit, menthol, plums and peppery flavours. The palate boasts an excellent contrast of this intense fruit with ripe tannins and textural grip. CELLARING NOTES

Immediately approachable but will reward careful cellaring peaking around 2007 – 2008 but will age to 2010 possibly longer.
