cellaring-provenance-fswLloyd Reserve Shiraz is produced from a single vineyard at Coriole. It is one of Langton’s Classified Wines of Australia.

Vineyards

The small vineyard was planted at Coriole in 1919 by Geoffrey Kay. The soils and roots are deep and little irrigation if any is required.

Winemaking Notes

Winemaking at Coriole is very traditional and labour intensive. Fermentation is in open tanks with hand plunging and pump overs. Oak maturation takes place over 15 to 18 months using about a third new French oak. Lloyd Reserve is well placed for long term cellaring.

Vintage

The 2004 harvest was a moderate and mild growing season. Fruit was under no disease pressure.Vintage staff appreciated a well paced picking season. Quantities were a little above normal. Varietalcharacters were very strong and overall assessment was extremely high through all levels.

Tasting Notes

Lloyd Reserve is produced from the oldest Shiraz vineyard at Coriole, planted in 1919, and was first retained as a separate wine in 1989. Very complex aromas of blackberry, plums, spice and chocolate. A rich very succulent palate and gentle tannins. This wine shows great attraction to consume when young or can be cellared for many years.

A lovely big, spicy shiraz with a huge amount of alcohol but has enough savoury tannins to tame it. Beautiful cherry fruit with a fresh, minty edge. Still very young with plenty of ageing potential.

5 Stars Winestate October 2006

Strong red-purple; a totally delicious wine, opening with blackberry, anise, spice and dark chocolate; abundant flavour without the millstone of high alcohol; good oak in support. Cork.
